60-second recorded anecdotes of daily life
in Williamsburg, Virginia 100+ years ago.
Each story was discovered in The Virginia Gazette
newspaper collection and recorded in partnership
with local radio WMBG 93.5.
Recordings are broadcast on local radio WMBG 93.5
and online every day at 12:30.
This one-of-a-kind resource is the result of ten+ years
of dedication by Julia Oxrieder.
In a self-initiated effort, Julia retyped
more than one thousand pages of articles
from The Virginia Gazette newspaper
between the years 1893-1925.
Rebecca Suerdieck knew the value of this compilation,
and was gifted the entire set of records by Julia's family.
Little by little, Rebecca created a keyword searchable website
so that it could be shared online for free.
Experience the golden age of radio with unique stories
about Williamsburg in the 1930s during the early days
of the Restoration.
Rebecca and her husband Mike co-write and co-produce
the "Williamsburg Old Time Radio Hour"
combining her love of local history
and his love of making sound effects.
Many of the stories are based
on the real life childhood memories
of Julia Oxreider and her unique collection
of articles published in The Virginia Gazette newspaper
from the years 1893-1925.
